How to create an audience
Audiences are different segments of your membership, created using search filters. The audience builder has a powerful search function that gives you the flexibility to create sophisticated audiences quickly and simply, so you can target campaigns effectively and win!
Follow the step-by-step guide below to create an audience.
Note: Audiences in Movement are dynamic. You can also create static lists using external data, find out more about creating lists here.
Step 1: Create an audience
Navigate to the Audience tab > select Create an audience

Step 2: Set your search
To create your audience, you will need to search for people to include/exclude using logic and filters.
Choose your search logic:
There are two primary search logics to choose between:
ALL: To be included people must mach ALL of the criteria you include in the search.
Search returns people who match criteria 1 AND criteria 2 AND criteria 3
ANY: To be included people must match ANY of the criteria you include in the search
Search returns people who match criteria 1 OR criteria 2 OR criteria 3
Most often you will want to choose the default ALL search logic for criteria you want to meet to be included and the default ANY search logic for exclusions.

Choose your filters:
The audience builder has a wide range of filters and you can choose as many as you like. You can either include people who match specific criteria and/or exclude people who match criteria. Select Add filter and a pop-up will appear where you can choose filters.

Note: You may need to add details depending on the filter you choose. For example, a date, donation amount, campaign, page or membership details:

Tip: For more complex searches where you need different logic for different criteria you can use groups.
Step 3: Confirm and check your audience
After you have created your search, select Next: confirm your audience. You will then be shown a summary of the search you have created and the number of people the search has returned for the audience. You can view individuals in the audience using the drop down.

Tip: If your search isn't running as expected, revisit the logic you have used. It can help to read out the criteria and include the logic explicitly to see if this is the source of the issue. Always sense check the number of people in your audience against what you might expect.
Step 4: Audience properties and name
Name your audience and select if you would like to make a template audience or share the audience with sub organisations.
Make this audience available as a template?:
If you will be using this audience frequently, select this to make a quick audience which will appear on your home screen.
Note: If the quick audience is only needed for a set period of time you can remove it at a later date by editing the audience and unticking this box.
Share with sub-organisations?:
Select this if you would like sub-organisations to be able to use this audience when creating campaigns in Movement. For example, if you are a national admin and you would like regional admins to be able to use this audience to set up campaigns at a regional level.
