Create audiences in Movement using your external data
Movement has a powerful search function that allows you to create audiences based on all the data it holds, but you may also need to create audiences using your own external data.
There are two ways you can create audiences in Movement using external data:
1. Create a list using membership numbers, phone numbers or emails.
This is the simplest way to create audiences using external data. You can use your external systems to generate a CSV of membership numbers, emails or phone numbers for the people you wish to include in your audience. You can then create a list using this data.
For example you may create a CSV of membership numbers for all members who are eligible to vote in a ballot and use this to create your audience for ballot comms.

2. Create a custom field and include in search criteria
The most common reason to use custom fields instead of uploading a list of membership numbers is when you have a single data set that you would like to create multiple audiences from or it's a data set you will be updating while the campaign is running, rather than a one off set of data.
For example you may create a custom field for workplace roles including branch secretaries, reps, equalities reps, health and safety reps and use this custom field to make audiences for each role.
