Organisations in Movement
In Movement, an ‘organisation’ is a particular structure within a broader organisation. So, each part of an overarching organisation is an organisation within itself in Movement.
For example, here’s what Movement's organisational hierarchy might look like for a union:
- National Organisation: The overarching body.
- Regional Organisation: Sits under the National organisation. A Region is an organisation in itself.
- Branch Organisation: Sits under a specific Region. A Branch is also an organisation.
- Employer Organisation: Sits under a specific Branch. An Employer is considered an organisation at the most specific level.
It is this nested hierarchy of organisations which allows for effective distributed organising at national, local and hyperlocal levels. The organisational structure must be hierarchical but there may be more than one branch in the hierarchy.
In Movement both users and members are assigned set of organisations within your organisational structure, for example their branch and region. This allows you to target and manage your communications and campaigns at all levels of your organisation within Movement.
Campaign targeting
Organisations allow you to target campaigns strategically and accurately. You can run campaigns within any organisation - running a national campaign will include everyone, a regional campaign only those in that region and so on. You can also localise national phone bank and conversation campaigns by using 'match by organisation' so that volunteers can only call or reply to people in their region, branch or any other organisation. Find out more about matching by organisation.
Volunteers
For volunteers, the organisation they are assigned will determine how they are matched - if 'match by organisation' is turned on - and which campaigns they can take part in. National volunteers will have access to campaigns across the platform, while regional volunteers will have access to the campaigns in their region as well as campaigns in the branches and workplaces in their region. Find out more about how user groups can be used to change access across organisations.
Admins
Co-ordinator and admin users have admin permissions within their organisation and the organisations below them in the hierarchy. So, a national co-ordinator or admin will have admin permissions across the platform. Regional co-ordinators or admins will have admin permissions for campaigns within their region but won't have admin access to manage national campaigns. Find out more about roles and permissions.
