Personalise messages with custom fields
You can use custom fields to import data to personalise your messages and scripts when creating SMS, phone, email and WhatsApp campaigns.
Case study: How to get 10,219 members to order a replacement ballot from a single SMS.
When writing messages, emails or scripts you can add personalised information using merge tags - for example you might pull through first names, workplace names or member addresses.
Custom fields allow you to import external data sets to merge into your messages and questions. For example, you could include turnout figures for member's branches to provide social proof to encourage non voters to vote or you could pull through personalised links to your voting platform.
-----
Step 1: Create the custom field as usual with a CSV of membership numbers and the data you wish to import for each member.
Tip: Make sure when you are creating the custom field you categorise it correctly - this will determine where your custom field will be shown when you add in merge tags and can be used to keep everything easy to find.

-----
Step 2: Include a merge tag in any message, script or question by click the + sign and select the custom field you wish to pull data through. The merge tag will match the title of your custom field.

-----
Step 3: Check your personalisation is working and accurate in the preview before hitting send, just select someone from the audience to view the personalised message they will receive:
