Create phone campaigns
From getting GOTV for a cruicial ballot to canvassing members for a key selection campaign, our phone tool is ideal for campaigns of any size.
Quick guide: How to set-up a phone campaign
- Go to the campaigns tab, click “Create Campaign”, select the phone option in the pop-up box.
- Enter a distinctive campaign name, so that you can easily find it later in the campaigns page.
- Select the “begin” button, then you'll arrive at the campaign builder which takes you through 6 steps: Goal, To, Instructions, Script & Questions, Users, Settings and Preview
Efforts
Goals allow you to group multiple campaigns with a shared goal together and efficiently group everyone who meets the goal to make managing audiences and tracking results easier. For example, when running a get out the vote operation for a ballot, you can set up a goal for the ballot of people voting.
If you select a goal you can select the answer that people need to give in the script to complete the goal. Everyone that gives this answer will then be recorded as completing the goal.

Instructions
Add some instructions for the people who will take part in the campaign to make calls (optional).

Script & Questions
Movement allows you to create logic-based interactive scripts that head down multiple branches. By using branching scripts you can create different journeys for people based on the answers they give.
How to set-up a branching script:
Step 1: Create the questions for your script with all the questions for each branch.
Step 2: Apply the logic
Step 1: Create the questions / instructions for your script for each branch
To create a question, select add question/instruction in the bottom left-hand corner of the box. There are seven types to choose from: instruction, multiple choice question, multiple select question, open question, ranking, send a text message and transfer the call.

You can add dynamic content fields to your questions and answers, such as address lines, to personalise the message for every recipient in your audience. For example, this can be particularly helpful if you are running a phonebank to see if members need a replacement ballot:

You can also text recipients during a phone call - anything from confirming their address to sending them a link.

Step 2: Apply the logic
Once you have set up all your questions you can set the logic for each branch by selecting the follow up question or instruction for each question or answer. Always make sure each brach ends with "end the questions"
For each multiple choice answer, you can set which question or instruction follows a specific answer. For other question types you can select the next step for everyone.
To add logic, click the three dots in the bottom right of the question box and click show advanced settings. This will then show a drop down for each question answer where you can select the next step for each branch.

For each question answer, there is a drop down box where you can select the next step for each branch.

Select the goal
You can tick the "Complete goal" box if the recipient has completed the goal for this effort.

Users
Select which users can take part in the campaign to make calls. If you are setting up the campaign as a national admin and want users that are assigned to regions or other organisations below the national organisation, use user groups to allow them to take part.

Settings
Set the deadline when the phone campaign closes - i.e. when no more calls can be made. If you don’t know exactly when that will be, select a date well into the future to ensure that the campaign does not unexpectedly close. Once you launch your campaign, you will be able to edit the deadline and other settings.
Select the calling hours in which you volunteers can make calls to members. Select up to 5 calling attempts.

There are three settings you can use to maximise your campaigns:
- Caller matching: localise a wider campaign and match callers with people in the same region or branch.
- Caller targetting: allows volunteers to target specific branches, regions, employers or workplaces within the campaign.
- Calling order: focus on reaching individual people most efficiently or maximising the number of different people you call.
Read more about these settings and how to best use them or check out or explainer for every campaign setting.
Preview
✅Check all your questions and scripts to show an accurate preview of the script that will guide the conversation for the caller.
✅ Double check your script is set up correctly and that every branch leads to end the questions.

Once you are happy with the preview, select launch. While you campaign launches, a pop-up box will prompt you to share with your team or any other people who you want to make phone calls.
