How to create and send WhatsApp surveys
From sending a quick poll for engagement, member insight or an indicative ballot to receiving photos from nationwide protests, voice notes from concerned members to take to decision makers or videos for use on social media, find new ways to engage your core members quickly with WhatsApp surveys.
Note: The campaign build flow is broadly similar across all campaigns! Simply navigate to campaigns, choose the type of campaign you'd like to send and follow the flow!
Tip: Every WhatsApp survey must start with a template message. Before you get started, ensure you have the templates you need.
To send your WhatsApp survey, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Create your campaign
Navigate to campaigns > select create campaign > WhatsApp > Survey

Step 2: Name your campaign
Name your campaign so you can easily find it again
Tip: Create naming conventions for your campaigns as a team

Step 3: Follow the six step campaign build flow
Tip: Hit save once you've completed each section, you can go back and edit at any time, in any order

Goals (optional): Goals allow you to group multiple campaigns with a shared goal together and efficiently group everyone who meets the goal to make managing audiences and tracking results easier. For example, when running a get out the vote operation for a ballot, you can set up a goal for the ballot of people voting, which you can apply across multiple campaigns. If you would like to apply a goal to your WhatsApp blast, select it from the drop down menu, otherwise, disregard this section:
-
To: Select the audience you wish to send your blast to from the drop down or select Create new if you would like to create a new audience for this campaign - you'll be taken to an audience build page. If you would like to send to a particular number of randomly chosen audience members, check the box and enter the number you would like, up to the size of your audience:

-
Content: This is what you want your first WhatsApp message in your survey to say. Choose one of your templates and then edit any variables you would like to. Any 'quick reply' buttons will be set in your template.
Tip: Make use of the emoji picker and merge tags for personalisation!

-
Script and questions: In this section, build out your survey with instructions and questions, including multi-choice or open (free text) questions. Use branching logic to move people through your survey - always make sure to close off a branch with 'end the questions'.
Note: It's only your first message that needs to be a pre-approve WhatsApp template, the rest of your survey can be created within Movement. This is because Meta, who own WhatsApp, require templates for first messages as a spam prevention measure. When a template message is replied to, it opens a conversation window where messages can be sent freely back and forth.

-
Settings: You have the option here to send messages all at once or to stagger them by setting a particular amount to send per hour - simply choose the parameters you would like:

Tip: If you would like to run through your survey before you send, create a test audience with just yourself in and send the survey to yourself so you can view it as a member would within WhatsApp.

Now you're ready to send or schedule your message! Either select send to send immediately or use the schedule button to set a date and time to send the message:

You'll be able to monitor your campaign and view results in your campaign overview page.
