Create and send WhatsApp peer to peer conversation campaigns
From canvassing for a ballot vote to gathering user-generated content such as photos, videos and voice notes, a WhatsApp conversation campaign is the perfect tool to build trust and response rates to win campaigns.
How to create and send a WhatsApp P2P conversations campaign via Movement.
- Go to the campaigns tab, click “Create Campaign”, select the WhatsApp option in the pop-up box and then “Conversation”.
- Enter a distinctive campaign name, so that you can easily find it later in the campaigns page.
- After selecting the “begin” button, you will arrive at the campaign builder which takes your through 8 steps: Goal, To, Instructions, Users, Content, Settings, Canned Responses and Preview.
Goal
Goals allow you to group multiple campaigns with a shared goal together and efficiently group everyone who meets the goal to make managing audiences and tracking results easier. For example, when running a get out the vote operation for a ballot, you can set up a goal for the ballot of people voting.
When you add a peer to peer campaign to a goal, this will add a button with the goal which the volunteer replying to messages can click if they believe the recipient has completed the goal.

Instructions
Add some instructions for the people who will take part in the campaign and answer the replies that come in (optional).

Users
Select which users can take part in the campaign, that is, the people who will be replying to the messages that come in from your audience. If you are setting up the campaign as a national admin and want users that are assigned to regions or other organisations below the national organisation, use user groups to allow them to take part.

Content
As is the case with all WhatsApp campaigns, you will need to send a pre-approved template to initiate the conversation. Select your template from the list of approved templates. If none of the listed templates are suitable, you will need to create and submit a new template for approval.
Fill in the numbered content fields for the variables in your chosen template. You can add dynamic content to personalise your message by clicking the plus icon. You can also add emojis ?

The phone screen on the right-hand side is an accurate preview of how your message will appear on WhatsApp.

Settings

Volunteer matching: Use matching to localise your campaign. Allow users and volunteers to reply only to the people in their branch, region or workplace. The Volunteer matching mode which has two options:
- Match by branch: Users can only reply to people within the same branch
- Any organisation below user’s organisation: This is the recommended setting for matching and works flexibly based on your organisation structure and the User’s organisation. Users can only reply to people in the same organisation as them or the ones below their organisation in your organisational structure.

Volunteer targeting: Use this setting to target specific branches, regions, employers or workplaces within the campaign. When turned on, senders will have the option to pick a target before they begin making calls.
Any organisation beneath their own - senders can target any organisation in the campaign that is within the organisation they are assigned to as a user (eg a regional user can select to target only those branches, employers or workplaces in their region)
Any organisation - senders can target any organisation in the campaign. For this to work for the sender assigned to organisations below national, you will need to given them a role permission "Volunteer anywhere". See more about creating and updating roles.

Sending mode: Send all messages at once, or customise to drip send a set number of messages out per hour between specific times.
Display target details update link: If you have Movement Verify, allow users to insert recipients personalised secure member details update link in their reply.

Canned Responses
Canned responses are pre-written responses that users have the option to use when replying to recipients. Users can use these canned responses for common questions or as explanations about relevant topics. This functionality can help to speed up the process of replying to people and assist users when they don’t know the answer to a certain question.
Add a name for your canned response and the add text/emojis to the body. Click save once you are happy with the text. Select add canned response if you want more than one for your campaign.


Preview
✅Check your personalisation by selecting any contact to show an accurate preview of the message they will receive.
✅Check your message end to end by sending yourself or a colleague a sample of your WhatsApp message.

Send or schedule
In the preview section, hit send to send your message immediately, or use the schedule button to set a date and time to send the message.
Tip: WhatsApp allows you to reply to recipients with non-templated messages for a 24 hour period after the last time they reply to you. After 24 hours, you need to send a template message to re-start the conversation. Make sure you monitor your inbox during this important 24 hour time limit.
Replying to WhatsApp messages as a volunteer
Once the recipient has replied, admins, users and volunteers can start replying. Below is a screenshot of the volunteer platform:

When replying, volunteers can use the canned responses you created when building the campaign. Select Choose a response and select the canned response you wish to reply with:

Once you have selected your canned response, you will have the opportunity to edit it before sending it to the recipient.

Once the recipient has confirmed that they have fulfilled the goal of the campaign - in this example, attending demo - the volunteer can click on the goal via the top right side of the bar:
