Build audiences using your external data and custom fields
The quickest way to use external data to create audiences is to use membership numbers, phone numbers or emails to create a list in Movement. However it's also possible to use custom fields to create audiences using external data.
The most common reason to choose custom fields is when you have a single set of data that you would like to create multiple audiences from. For example workplace roles data fields which include branch secretaries, reps, equalities reps, health and safety reps.

How to build an audience using custom field data:
Step 1: Create your custom field as normal. Your CSV will need the membership number and the data to upload for each member.
Tip: When creating the custom field it's helpful to list the possible values in the custom field description. For example, if the custom field contains a list of workplace roles, it can be helpful to list here the roles included. E.g. Workplace roles. workplace rep: WPR, Branch secretary: BSEC, Ballot volunteer: BV, Equalities rep: EQR.
